The Issue
Texas schools deserve real safety solutions, not bureaucratic red tape. The Texas Education Agency’s Sentinel rule is a prime example of a top-down, unfunded mandate that puts unnecessary burdens on schools without delivering real security improvements.
Instead of giving schools the resources and flexibility they need to protect students and staff, Sentinel forces districts into a one-size-fits-all compliance model that doesn’t account for the unique needs of each school and community. Schools are expected to meet complex new requirements without additional funding, leaving them scrambling to shift resources away from essential education programs just to avoid penalties.
